Cultural Background
The early 20th century was a transformative period for art, characterized by the rise of diverse movements that sought to redefine the boundaries of artistic expression. Among these, Art Deco emerged as a prominent style, blending luxury and modernity. This movement found its roots in the 1925 International Exposition of Modern Industrial and Decorative Arts in Paris, which showcased the latest trends in architecture, design, and visual arts.
Artists such as Tamara de Lempicka and Jean Cocteau played pivotal roles in shaping the visual language of this era. Lempicka, with her elegant portraits and streamlined forms, captured the essence of the modern woman, while Cocteau's innovative works in theater and film pushed the boundaries of narrative and aesthetics. Their contributions, along with those of many others, laid the groundwork for a new appreciation of art that celebrated both form and function.
In this context, the Cedric des Lauriers collection emerges not merely as a series of posters but as a dialogue with the past.
