How to Choose the Right Poster Size

The single most common framing regret is a print that turns out too small for its wall. Size is easy to get right once you see the measurements next to the room they are meant for. Below are the standard formats we print, in centimetres, with practical guidance for each space.

Our poster sizes in centimetres

All Paris Poster fine-art prints follow the international A-series and standard wall-art formats. Here are the dimensions, smallest to largest:

  • A4 - 21 x 29.7 cm - desk frames, gallery-wall fillers, small nooks.
  • A3 - 29.7 x 42 cm - hallways, above a bedside table, kitchen corners.
  • 30 x 40 cm - a popular all-rounder for shelves and clusters.
  • A2 - 42 x 59.4 cm - above a console, in a reading corner, paired in twos.
  • 50 x 70 cm - the most-ordered single statement size for living rooms.
  • 61 x 91 cm - large feature print above a sofa or bed.
  • 70 x 100 cm and 84 x 119 cm (A0-ish) - oversized focal pieces for tall or open walls.

Room-by-room guidance

Above a sofa or bed

Furniture sets the scale. A single print should span roughly two-thirds to three-quarters of the furniture width. Above a standard three-seat sofa (about 210 cm), a 50 x 70 cm print works as part of a pair or trio, while a single 70 x 100 cm holds the wall on its own.

Hallways and stairwells

These are narrow, so people view prints from close up. A3 or 30 x 40 cm reads well here, and a row of three matching frames guides the eye along the corridor.

Above a console, desk or sideboard

A2 (42 x 59.4 cm) or 50 x 70 cm sits comfortably above a 100 to 140 cm piece of furniture without crowding it.

Gallery walls

Mix two or three sizes - for example A3 with 30 x 40 cm and one 50 x 70 cm anchor - and keep a consistent 5 to 8 cm gap between frames.

A quick way to test before you buy

Cut a sheet of newspaper or kraft paper to the exact centimetre size and tape it to the wall for a day. You will know within minutes whether the proportions feel right. Hang the centre of the print at about 145 to 150 cm from the floor, which is standard gallery eye level.

Framed or rolled?

Every size above is available rolled or framed in oak, black or white. Framing adds a passe-partout border, which visually enlarges a print, so a 50 x 70 cm framed piece occupies noticeably more wall than the same size rolled.
